Looks and Design:
The naked design of the motorcycle screams Yamaha at the very first glance. Yamaha follows the MT-10 design philosophy to all of its naked siblings, and MT-09 isn't an exemption. The bike goes all stealth mode, as it's developed based on their "Multi performance neo-roadster" concept. The motorcycle looks futuristic and the design will still feel attractive after half a decade. The fuel tank is large with extensions on either sides, followed by a sleek long seat. The handlebar is wide just like every other naked out in the market, while the headlight assembly houses four LED projectors and DRL's. The front of the motorcycle is larger than the previous generation MT-09, making it look much mean and brutal. The rear is almost similar to the old bike, while there is a suttle change to the mudguards. The taillights of the MT-09 comes equipped with 3 dimensional LED's that forms an M when viewed from above.
Engine and Performance: The 2017 Yamaha MT-09 is equipped with a newly developed 847cc liquid cooled DOHC, inline three crossplane motor which produces 115 PS at 10,000 RPM and 87.5 Nm of torque at 8,500 RPM respectively. The engine is very light and compact for its size, while the frame is made out of CF die cast aluminium. The clutch is a wet multiplate unit with slip and assist while transmission is a regular six speed gearbox. The engine is fuelled by Electronic fuel injection.
Brakes, Chassis and Suspension: The MT-09 has an aluminum die cast Diamond type frame on which the engine is directly mounted. The motorcycle is suspended by 41mm telescopic USD forks up front with 137mm of travel and a single swingarm link type mono shock at the rear with 130mm travel. Braking duties are carried out by hydraulic 298mm dual discs with 4 piston calipers up front and a single 245mm disc at the rear. Both the alloy wheels are 17" and comes shod with 120/70 ZR17 M/C and 180/55 ZR17 M/C profile tyres respectively.
Electronics and Equipment: The Yamaha MT-09 has a fully digital white backlit LCD speedometer unit with all other tell tale lights. Quick shifter comes as a part of the standard package on the MT-09. The motorcycle has switchable Traction Control System and various power modes to play with. ABS comes as standard on the hyper naked motorcycle. With all these electronics and a lightweight engine, chassis, the motorcycle is easy to ride with agile handling around the corners.
Price and Mileage:
The Yamaha MT-09 might have a tad less power when compared to its competition like the Kawasaki Z900, but wins hands down when looked at the equipment it comes with. The Yamaha MT-09 has the most sophisticated electronic systems in its class, and this would surely be one of the USP of the motorcycle in India. Yamaha has also priced the motorcycle really well at Rs 10,88,122 which is easily accessible for anyone looking to buy a quality naked motorcycle. The Japanese reliability, pricing, technology, futuristic looks would make the 2017 Yamaha MT-09 a clear winner amongst its rivals. Originally Posted on Feb'2016
