When it comes to modern classic bikes, then Royal Enfield is not the only company in the market. Another British manufacturer, Triumph Motorcycles are in the same business as well. Their portfolio is packed with scramblers, retro-styled cafe racers, bobbers and cruisers. They are famous for making everyday motorcycles, which people can easily live with. Their most affordable motorcycle, Triumph Street twin is one among them. It combines classic British styling with modern technology to deliver a great value for money package.
Engine and Performance: Triumph Street Twin uses a 900 cc liquid-cooled parallel twin, which produces 54.7 PS of power and 80 NM of torque. The power hits pretty early at 5900 RPM, this makes those 54 horses seems a lot more and the same goes for torque as it hits at 3230 RPM. The engine is responsive from the get go but the number of gears present on it is only 5. The 1st and 2nd gear are kept short and the 4th and 5th are relatively tall to compensate for the lack of a 6th. The engine is liquid cooled but gives the illusion of being an air-cooled one due to vents, which are present over the engine block. Triumph has made a lot of efforts in making this engine look old and retro along with the rest of the bike. Throttle uses Ride by wire technology to ensure the perfect air-fuel mixture is burned every time.
Chassis and brakes: The bike uses a tubular steel frame with a 25.1-degree rake. It makes the front end feel relaxed and flickable into corners. The dry weight of the bike is 198 kg, which is pretty less for a bike in this range. It uses conventional 41 mm telescopic forks up front and Kayaba adjustable twin shocks at the back. The bike cuts out on expensive aluminum rim spoked wheels with cast aluminum alloys. The tyre at the front is a 100/90 18” and at the rear is a 150/70 17”. Both are radial in their construction and offer good lean angles. Brakes comprise a single 310 mm disc with a 2-piston Nissin caliper at the front; and a 255 mm disc at the back.
The bike also features split seat setup but skimps on pillion grab rails. The seat height is 750 mm, which makes it accessible for even the shortest of riders.
Electrical and Rider assists: The Triumph Street Twin comes with an analogue display which displays information like speed, time, distance traveled, fuel level, service due etc. The bike also comes with ABS and Traction Control which can be switched on and off according to the personal preference. To make gear shifts easy, a torque assist clutch is present. It comes in handy when doing all day long trips. A new security feature is known as “Engine Immobilizer” only allows the ignition to start with the original key, thus making the bike almost impossible to steal.
Triumph Street Twin is the most affordable Triumph motorcycle available in India. At an ex-showroom price of Rs 7,70,500 lakhs, it can give you entry into the premium lifestyle which comes along, when buying such an expensive motorcycle.
