Brief Introduction of Moto3:
Basically the Grand Prix format of racing has 3 classes and all the bikes used in these are non production models that is models which are built specifically for racing. Different classes are divided on different engine sizes:
Moto3- 250cc 4 stroke engines
Moto2- 600cc 4 stroke engines
MotoGP- 1000cc 4 stroke engines & 240+ horsepower.
Today we will focus on the first format of racing i.e. Moto3 and save rest for some other day. As mentioned in Moto3 all the motorcycles use 250cc class engines in their motorcycles. Before 2012 the Moto3 class used 125cc engines which were later switched to 250cc 4 stroke with a weight limit of 65 kg with fuel. As you can see this is the engine capacity range in which most of the entry level sports bike exists in our market and currently Indian manufacturer Mahindra's racing team is shining in these races. Presently there are 6 out of 31 bikes on the Moto3 grid are of Mahindra's MGP30.
Why only TVS Racing?:Moto2- 600cc 4 stroke engines
MotoGP- 1000cc 4 stroke engines & 240+ horsepower.
If Mahindra has been making their presence felt in Moto-3 then TVS have been tearing up the scene at the DAKAR, INRC and RTR Racing Cup the likes of which attract the riders from Malaysia and Columbia. It's not just the bike or the technology or even the rider who rides it, it’s the company's philosophy to use race track not just to win but to make their products better.
Sure TVS don't always win at the DAKAR but the important thing is that they don't shy away from the competition and they aren't afraid to fail instead they learn from it. They use every point loss, every error to improve themselves and that's what makes them dangerous because you can make them lose but every time you do it, you make them even better.
Unlike other motorcycles from different brands in India TVS has got brand 'Apache' which was born for the race track. The bike is an evolution of Suzuki Fiero 1999 which was manufactured by TVS in collaboration with Suzuki Motorcycles, Japan. It was TVS's R&D which did an overbore on the 147cc Fiero engine. TVS introduced technologies like (FI) Fuel injection and petal discs which gave better heat dissipation. RTR in the name of the bike stands for Racing throttle response which does what its name suggests, it gives the rider instantaneous throttle response.
The latest model of Apache is the RTR 200 4V which comes with a 4 valve, oil cooled 200cc engine producing 20 NM of torque and 20.5 PS of power. The bike is already a bestseller in the company and TVS went one step ahead to prove the Moto behind the bike true which states "Engineered by the Stopwatch" by releasing the lap time of the BIC track in greater Noida.
Irrespective of brand be it TVS, Mahindra or Bajaj we should give our support to the real Indians who are working day & night to make the motto of "Make in India" true & re-calibrating it with quality, refinement and a passion for racing. The day is not far away when every Moto3 championship will be celebrated as widely as we celebrate cricket in this country, until then we must support our heroes who are riding these magnificent machines and believe in our indigenous automobile companies.
