Distorted Power to Weight Ratio:
The Bajaj Dominar weighs in at about 182 kgs dry add to it the weight of 13.5 liters of petrol and you have a weight of 192 Kg. It's still not the real number because I am ignoring all the other fluids present in the bike. Imagine a 192 Kg bike with just 24.5 PS of power, as it is the peak amount of horsepower, which the 200 CC triple spark engine in its fuel injected form produces. It’d be the worst performing bike in the Bajaj’s line up.
If you’re thinking that Bajaj will obviously launch the bike with some weight reduction, then let me explain my next point, which is-
Such a bike already exists:
Besides the longer trail, rake angle and the wheelbase, The Dominar and every other perimeter-based bike from Bajaj are a 200 NS underneath. In order to better understand this, let’s cut some weight off the Dominar ourselves. First, we will reduce the 43 mm front fork thus reducing ride quality and highway stability. Then we will change the swingarm from a contoured stamped metal one to a thinner one. Since the swingarm is smaller, we would now need a skinnier tyre than before. The bike will essentially become a 200 NS with the body of a Dominar 400.
Now step back and take a look at the motorcycle. We have a Dominar with thin forks, thin swingarm, thin tyres and the same huge body. Not even God can make a more ugly motorcycle than this.
200CC is already crowded:
Bajaj has the 5 different motorcycles in the 200 cc segment and It is common sense to not saturate an already saturated lineup. Their line up already has a cruiser(220 Cruise), a cruiser-street(220 Street), a naked (P200NS), a sports tourer (P200RS) and a highway tourer (P220). Another highway tourer/cruiser/naked makes absolutely no sense when your every 200 cc bike can function just the same.
That was my explanation of “Why there will never be a Dominar 200” and by any chance, if such a bike is ever released in the future then I will have to facepalm my self through my stupid face. ;) What are your thoughts on the topic, let me know in the comments below and for such quirky analysis, stay tuned to Bikesmedia.
