The reason why this article has been reached on to is because Yamaha made a very smart decision as they already have the 150cc segment quite full and also have launched the newer R3 as well. This has helped them clear out the space in their dealerships and also the assembly lines to make and romp up the production of the newer bikes. They have the Saluto now to take care of the commuter segment with good power and economy factor.
For the 150cc commuter, the SZ-RR Version 2.0 is available, so Yamaha really does not need all so many products since they are pretty old and their time was pretty much over. This is something maybe Hero and Honda should learn from. The thing about these two companies is that they have a huge product line from the commuters to the 150cc segment. On top of that, they keep launching new bikes but do not take the old ones off the assembly line.
There is a reason for that and that is because to give the consumer overwhelming options from the same banner to make sure he/she does not leave away from the company to some other. But if we consider today’s consumer, they are more into practicality and performance than looks. The reason why the Discover range from Bajaj is doing pretty well and that too with only the Discover line-up.
Our only suggestion to both Hero and Honda is to please keep only the latest and best bikes and discontinue the old models so that it will clear up a lot of space in your company and free up the assembly line as well. And not just that but this can even help you build a lot more higher capacity bikes here in India itself and hence sell them at lower costs. Could do wonders to both Honda and Hero who is planning to launch its first 250cc Hero HX250R.
We only hope both the company’s think-tanks take a proper decision after mulling over this issue and hopefully it can turn into loads of profits for the company by taking away the confusion factor from the consumer.
