1: Pulsar 220 (2018): This bike has been around in the market for more than 10 years. Its earlier model were fuel injected but now it comes with a carburetor. Even then it’s one of the smoothest running bikes in the 200 cc segment. Bajaj has worked wonders with the bike’s BS4 model by eliminating several problems like the unstable fairing, oil-leakage and vibrations. The bike is a joy to ride thanks to its 219.9 cc air+oil cooled engine which produces 18.55 Nm of torque @ 7000 RPM, it is delivered right from the start. The 20.93 PS of power @ 8500 RPM delivers a top speed of 138 km/h. Ideal cruising speed on this bike is 100-110 km/h and with a fuel tank capacity of 15 Liters, Pulsar 220 can take you anywhere you wish to go. The ex-showroom price of Pulsar 220 is Rs 94,883.
2: Yamaha FZ 25: Earlier, the decision was to include Fazer 25 in this list, but because of "unconventional looks" FZ 25 makes a better case. The FZ 25 is the next upgradable model after FZ 2.0 and features many of its characteristics. Among them a smooth engine, a strong chassis and street fighter design are primary. FZ 25 features the same highway stability and refined engine which its sibling offers and build upon them by delivering instantaneous torque and real-world highway performance.
The engine of the bike is a 249 cc Air + oil cooled fuel injected engine which produces 20.9 PS of power @ 8000 RPM and 20 NM of torque @ 6000 RPM. The first and second gear is short for better city slicking but the 4th and 5th gear are tall enough for a top speed of 139 km/h. The bike can cruise at 100 km/h, with enough power available for taking overs. It has a fuel tank capacity of 14 liters and a "Yamaha certified mileage" of around 40 km/l. The ex-showroom price of Yamaha FZ 25 is Rs 1,19,335.
3: Bajaj Pulsar 200 RS: It is the flagship Pulsar and it deserves to be. Pulsar 200 RS is the only fully faired bike available in the Pulsar series and it features the most advanced engine design among all of these motorcycles. It features a 199 cc liquid cooled fuel injected engine which has 3 spark plugs and 4-valves for excellent combustion. The result of all these components is that the Pulsar 200 RS is utter easy to ride on the highway. It produces 24.5 PS of power @ 9750 RPM and 18.6 NM of torque @ 8000 RPM.
The bike can cruise at around 120 km/h and neither wind blasts nor vibrations will bother you. The top-end is the place where every Pulsar shines but this one takes it to a whole new level. The maximum speed Pulsar 200 RS is 148 km/h and throughout that climb, it holds the ground very well. The fueling on the bike is precise and the liquid cooling works really well. The only thing which the bike cheats out on is a dual channel ABS, as a single channel unit only does half the job. The ex-showroom price of Pulsar 200 RS is Rs 1.37 lakh.
4: TVS Apache RTR 200 4v: The Draken concept bike was made into the first 200 cc Apache. It is an evolution of the previous RTR series in terms of design and performance. The engine on this bike was designed from the ground up and features 4-valves instead of two, this allows the bike to redline higher than it’s siblings. The motor is a 197.75 cc air + oil cooled one which produces 20.7 BHP of power @ 9000 RPM and 18.1 Nm of torque @ 7000 RPM. The torque is instantaneous and the handling is razor sharp.
The top end of the Apache RTR 200 4V is very well preserved with a top speed of around 138 km/h but many brave souls have gone beyond. Being a naked bike, it is familiar with windblasts and fully embraces them but if you plan on going around 100-110 then you should be just fine. The company also offers ABS and Fi but on different models. The ex-showroom price of TVS Apache RTR 200 4v Race Spec ABS edition is Rs 1.09 Lakh.
5: Pulsar 200 NS: Third Bajaj bike on this list is responsible for the propagation of Pulsar fandom in our country, in a huge way. It was the first to feature a triple spark 4-valve engine which now the Dominar and 200 RS proudly uses. On this particular bike, it was a carburetor, not a fuel injection, which was used for mixing air and fuel but that didn’t stop this from becoming a smooth highway cruiser. The Triple spark engine inherently is free of vibrations, this gives Pulsar 200 NS an advantage over its rivals.
The motor used here is the same 199 cc liquid cooled 4-valve motor which produces 23.17 BHP @ 9500 RPM and 18.3 NM of torque @ 8000 RPM. The bike can cruise around 100-120 km/h easily and its top speed is 140 km/h. Like 200 RS, this Pulsar too comes with a single channel ABS which costs Rs 12,000 extra from its base price of Rs 93,519.
