Aprilia was founded in 1945 in Noale, in the Venetian province, Italy. Back in the eighties, Aprilia were outsourcing engines from Rotax, an Austrian manufacturer for their large engine bikes like the Pegaso 600, the 1000cc V-twin engined RSV Mille and the sports tourer Falco, both strikingly similar except for the ergonomics.

Aprilia was acquired by Piaggio & Co. S.P.A in 2004, making it the fourth largest automobile manufacturer, with 1.5 Billion Euro in sales and a production capacity of 600,000 vehicles per year. By the time of acquisition Aprilia had legendary brands like Moto Guzzi and Laverda in its portfolio.
