Being an ardent biker myself, I was on the hunt for the best engine oil for my bike. I own a Bajaj Pulsar 200NS UG1 and hence finding the right engine oil for my bike was really hard. Bajaj recommends using their own Bajaj DTSi 10000 oil which is nothing much but a HP produced mineral oil. The claimed 10000 kms drain interval is not up to the mark and hence after the initial running of the bike of 5000 kms on the stock Bajaj oil, it was time to get a change. After loads of research on which is the best oil for my bike, I finally narrowed down to the Motul 7100 Fully Synthetic Oil. The grade for my bike is 20W50, so it was not that difficult to lay my hands on the oil as Bajaj also sell it in their Authorized Service center here in Mumbai.
First Impression:
After my bike sipped in about 1.25 litres of this cherry coloured liquid, the initial impression of the bike’s performance was not much really. It was still behaving like it would on the initial Bajaj Mineral oil and my journey back home did not really make me feel any difference on the bike’s performance. It made me question exactly how much of a difference this oil is going to make on my engine and that was it really.
A Comprehensive Review:
After churning the oil in the engine for over 100 kms, I could steadily feel the effects of the oil come into its own. The sound of the engine changed completely all of a sudden. One could actually feel the vibes reducing by as much as 25-30% and the sound of the engine being a clear throaty sound than the one having a sore throat. Guess this Benadryl was the one it needed after all.
The gear shifts which earlier used to be a real work with loud clicks and thuds and the tendency to stick suddenly came in its own. The shifts became so smooth that I had to actually double check if the gear really had shifted. The feedback though reduced by up to 60% due to the excessive smoothness of the gear shifts, it sometimes scared me making me think that the lever has broken off and is moving freely. Over time I got used to it and then realized that my gearbox was a really harsh one before.
After over 1000 kms of riding in the summer heat, you can easily find the difference Motul 7100 makes to your bike’s engine. After rides to Pune, Lonavala and many other in city usage and quick highway rides, I can easily claim that the overall stress on the engine has reduced quite a lot. The bike mileage has not made much of a difference, hardly a 2-3 kms hike over the previous oil, but then again that would make a big difference to some. On other parts the engine runs a lot cooler than it would usually have had. The liquid cooling mechanism does not get that much of a load on it.
I remember that after a 160 kms dash on a winter morning, my bike’s radiator fan was buzzing with all its might at 11 am in the morning after the completion. Whereas now with the Motul 7100, a 2 pm in the summer afternoon 160 kms dash on this bike resulted in a much cooler engine and the radiator fan hardly ever came on through the entire journey. That is one very big difference that needs to be noted.
Also for all our friends who do not ride much and have their bike parked for most of the time, being fully synthetic oil it does not degrade with time. Hence you can very well be assured that even if you start up your bike after over a week or even a month, the oil will be very much into its own to protect your engine and give the performance that it will feel like just yesterday you had ridden your bike.
Pros:
* Fully Synthetic with Ester technology provides long lasting protection to the engine and its components.
* Smoothens up the gearbox and provides stress free movement and shifting.
* Ensures engine is protected even after prolonged periods of standing time.
* Increases the lower end performance and gives better initial acceleration.
* Engine runs smoother and cooler than ever before.
* Does not lose viscosity under harsh conditions. Perfect for prolonged periods of non-stop riding.
* Increases mileage of the bike.
* Longer drain interval of 7000 kms.
Cons:
* High initial cost.
* Cold starts are an issue sometimes. The engine takes a little extra time to heat up to its optimum temperature.
* Availability issues in case of a breakdown. (It is always better to carry an extra can with you if you are going on longer hauls and in areas with unavailability of Motul oils).

All in all the Motul 7100 Fully Synthetic oil is absolutely worth the money it costs. Its drain interval is at a steady 6000-7000 kms to be on a safer side, though it is very much capable to carry on up to 8000 kms if you do not tend to ride your bike hard. Being synthetic oil also do not expect it to turn darker over time. It stays its cherry red colour and trust me, it really looks cool through the oil indicator windows as well to see actual blood being circulated through your bike’s heart as well (wink!).
So if you are looking for worthy oil replacement for your sports bike, then the Motul 7100 is totally up for it. Just make sure that you get the grade recommended by your manufacturer as Motul 7100 is available in grades of right from 0W10 to all the way up to 20W60. This oil is a true friend for your performance bikes and most importantly you might feel that is costs a lot, but the protection, performance and the drain interval that it has, it totally costs you way less in the longer run.
