In what is claimed as the most exciting season in the history of Grand Prix motorcycle racing, the Circuito Ricardo Tormo is unarguably the best place for a battle royale between the best riders on earth. The Circuit is comparatively shorter i.e 4 kilometers and a standard width of 12m. However, the higher number of left hand corners necessitate the tire manufacturer to provide the riders with an asymmetric tire in order to prevent cold tire crashes. The Circuit comprises of a 650m long start/finish straight, five right hand and eight left handed corners. The circuit starts to tighten up and get slower in the second and third sectors, where bikes which are a bit low on power bur have a sweet handling chassis can excel (Like the Suzuki GSX-RR and the Yamaha YZR-M1).
This is only the third time the MotoGP world championship is decided at Cheste, the last time was in 2013 where Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) took a cautious third place to win his first world title. The 2006 world title was also decided here as Valentino Rossi crashed out of the race, allowing MotoGP legend Nicky Hayden to take his only MotoGP world title on-board the Repsol Honda RC211V.
This race is the last one for many things. This is Bridgestone's last race as the sole tire supplier, the end of exclusive and specialized electronics and of course, Nicky Hayden's (Power Electronics Aspar) last MotoGP appearance. Many emotions, a lot of excitement and drama await at the eastern coast of Spain.
