Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa showed some clear progress by moving to P5 from his initial 8th position. Valentino Rossi soon opened a gap at the front, leaving Lorenzo and Marquez to fight it out while Pedrosa became the only fastest man on track lapping in 1.32's. Pedrosa soon made up some positions and saw himself at P4, just 3 more to take on for a sensational victory.
The two teammates Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa had a close fight at one of the tightest corners in the circuit, with Pedrosa easily coming out on top at the end leaving his teammate stumbled. With only the Yamaha duo at front, Pedrosa rode a super silky ride just to ensure that he doesn't overheat his soft compound front. With 12 laps to go, he was soon able to catch Jorge Lorenzo, while Rossi had an 1.2 second advantage at the front in P1.
With only 8 laps to go for the chequered flag, Pedrosa won another battle with Rossi to take the lead. He went on to open up a big gap from Rossi, who in turn had a mammoth gap from Lorenzo. Pedrosa crossed the line 2.8 seconds in front of Rossi, to win the San Marino GP. He was followed by Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo who completed the podium. The Championship leader Marc Marquez came home at P4 followed by Maverick Viñales and Andrea Dovizioso.
The top 10 were completed by Michelle Pirro (Replacement for injured Andrea Iannone), Cal Crutchlow, Pol Espargaro and Alvaro Bautista. Cal Crutchlow got a penalty for exceeding track limits which eventually made him to drop down one place, leaving Pol Espargaro as the top Satellite rider. Podium scenes were an as usual Misano, with a gargantuan number of fans in yellow cheering for The Master, Valentino Rossi.
At the end of this race, Rossi gained a 7 point advantage to Marc Marquez leaving the gap to 43 points between each other. There is no change in the Championship standings, with Marc Marquez on top followed by Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. MotoGP now moves to Motorland Aragon, where the fight for the championship will be continued. Stay tuned for further updates on the 2016 MotoGP Championship.
