AHO In Foreign Nations:
The AHO or 'Automatic Headlight On' feature was first made compulsory in the Western countries, as their environmental conditions made the authorities take that decision. Due to relatively high amount of thick fogs, snow and thunderstorms the decision on AHO feature was taken. The decision was very effective that the number of accidents decreased and the visibility of oncoming vehicles increased by a great margin.
Is AHO really required in India?
The AHO feature has definitely helped people out there in the foggy hills, places with frequent landslides and areas with heavy rainfall. Apart from these the AHO feature hasn't helped the average Indian, which is the actual sad reality. In a country like India where the climate is hot and humid most of the year, such feature feels useless. To the funnier part, there are still people calling out those on the AHO equipped motorcycles to switch off their headlights.
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL's): On the other hand DRL's main objective is to increase the visibility of the vehicle in bright day light. The DRL's emit bright white or yellow lights, which depends upon different manufacturers. They usually make use of LED lights for DRL's, since they consume a very less amount of energy and emit a very bright light with a long life time, making it a WIN-WIN situation for both the environment and the customers. Apart from all these technical reasoning, DRL's look really cool. Those bright LEDs on a Ducati Monster 797, looking like a series of planetary stars are literally a DROOL STUFF.
