Once you come across that you’ve lost your vehicle you must immediately lodge a police complaint by formally registering First Information Report (FIR) at nearby Police Station. After doing this you must contact your insurance company either through their Customer Care service centre or you can also contact the insurance company’s representative. At the insurance company’s end you have to fill a claim form, where you need to mention the information like Policy Number, details of your vehicle including RC Number, make and model, etc. You also need to mention the details of the incident like date, timing and the description of the theft in the claim form.
After filling the claim form you need to submit the duly signed claim form to the insurance company along with documents like, copy of Registration Certificate (RC) of the two-wheeler, copy of your Driving License, fist two pages of the Insurance Policy Documents, original copy of FIR and a letter written to the RTO informing him about the incident.

The Police will take few days and try to recover the stolen vehicle and after the stipulated time period if they could not trace the bike they will issue a final ‘Nontraceable Report’. After police submits the report and the claim has been approved by the insurance company you need to transfer the RC of the stolen vehicle to the insurance company. You also need to handover the set of keys of the vehicle to the insurance company and after this has been done, whatever amount approved by the insurance company based on the surveyor’s report shall be reimbursed to you within seven working days.
In case the two-wheeler was financed by the finance company the amount approved will be credited to the finance company and any extra amount other than this shall be borne by you. Whatever the case it may be you need to get a duplicate copy of the Registration Certificate of the stolen two-wheeler from the RTO authority for your record. You can always take help of the insurance company’s representative while going through all this as normally they are well versed in settling claims and will certainly assist you in settling yours.
