Movistar Yamaha's Maverick Viñales took a stunning pole position at Misano after a tight fit with Andrea Dovizioso. Championship leader Dovi starts just behind from the middle of the front row. Marc Marquez start from P3, though he suffered a huge blow and kissed the gravel on a quick lap. Cal Crutchlow leads the second row of the grid at P4. Valentino Rossi sadly misses out his home GP following a training crash and breaking his right tibia last week. Yamaha announced there will be no replacement for The Doctor and has a "Come soon, we miss you" message in the garage.
As the Q2 session went underway it was championship leader Andrea Dovizioso who was on provisional pole on his home track. Despite an incredible initial pace from Dovi, it was not enough to stop Maverick Viñales as he went on to secure the pole. Marquez isn't far ahead as he starts the San Marino GP from third on the grid, with a Qualifying lap time of 1'32.636 just 2 tenths short of pole time. Cal Crutchlow is joined by Jorge Lorenzo and the French man Johann Zarco on the second row of the grid. Dani Pedrosa puts his Honda on the front of third row as he suffered to find expected pace throughout the weekend. Danilo Petrucci starts with his satellite Ducati from P8 of the grid.
The top 10 of the grid is completed by Aleix Espargaro and Alvaro Bautista. Ducati factory test rider and wild card rider at Misano, Michelle Pirro starts from P11 followed by Karel Abraham at P12.
The Tribul MasterCard GP SanMarino E Riviera di Rimini goes live from the Misano circuit at 5:30 PM IST. With Rossi eventually away from the Championship runaway, it becomes a three way dog fight between Andrea Dovizioso, Marc Marquez and Maverick Viñales with Dani Pedrosa possibly into the mix. We expect the Misano GP to give us adrenaline rush as the riders start the fight for the rostrum. Meanwhile stay tuned to BikesMedia for further updates on the 2017 MotoGP World Championship.
