The race started off with Cal Crutchlow on pole followed by Valentino Rossi and Maverick Viñales to complete the first row of the grid. The pole man Cal initially lead the race with Viñales and Rossi following closely. The race was soon taken under control by the Suzuki rider Maverick Viñales and opened up a gap to lead. A close fight for the second place was lead by Marquez, Rossi and Crutchlow with Andrea Iannone and Dani Pedrosa following them at the back.
Rossi soon made a move on Marquez to P2, and was seen almost 2 seconds behind the race leader. Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo seemed to miss his perseverance at the British soil and was seen at P8. Meanwhile a potential Andrea Iannone pushed his Ducati Desmosedici GP16 to it's limit to get through a few spots at P2, only to kiss the gravel with just 6 laps to go. Crutchlow was soon able to get through at P2, leaving Rossi and Marquez to fight it out. The top 2 Championship contenders created a treat for the viewers by making close scintillating maneuvers.
Marquez soon won the battle with Rossi for P3 and went too hot into a right hander while trying to catch Crutchlow making him to go too wide, eventually fighting his teammate Pedrosa for P5 aftermath. Marquez won over his teammate with one and a half laps to go, and settled for a P4. Viñales cruised to a victory with a 3 second lead, followed by the Home rider Cal Crutchlow and Valentino Rossi.
Marc Marquez finished his race at P4, followed by Dani Pedrosa. Andrea Iannone made an impressive P6 despite a knee injury during his testing, and another injured Alex Espargaro came in at P7. The 2015 World Champion Jorge Lorenzo continued his loss of form and finished at 8th position. The top 10 was completed by Danilo Petrucci and Alvaro Bautista respectively.
After the end of today's race Marquez still remains on top of the Championship standings followed by Valentino Rossi who recovered a meager amount of points today.
