The attempt will see the use of the purpose built 1,000 Bhp Triumph Rocket Streamliner piloted by GUY MARTIN – The Isle of Man TT Legend and a truck mechanic. Well known for his love for speed, Guy Martin hopes to bring the land speed record back to Triumph and to the UK after an absence of 45 years.
Triumph is an old name in motorcycle racing and smashing land speed records and has held the title of "World's Fastest Motorcycle" from 1955 to 1970 with the exception of a brief 33-day period. The record-breaking Triumph streamliners of that period were Devil's Arrow, Texas Cee-gar, Dudek Streamliner and Gyronaut X1, the former achieving a top speed of 245.667 mph (395.28 km/h). The 2015 Triumph Rocket Streamliner will be competing in the DIVISION C (streamlined motorcycle) category and features a carbon Kevlar monocoque construction with two turbocharged Triumph Rocket III engines producing a combined 1,000 Bhp @ 9,000 rpm. The bike will be powered by methanol fuel and is 25.5’ long, 2’ wide and 3’ tall. Triumph plans to do the final testing of the bike in mid-July at the Bonneville Salt Flats before trying to attempt the record breaking run in August 2015.
Mr. Vimal Sumbly, Managing Director, Triumph Motorcycles India seemed very excited to see the adrenaline junkie Guy Martin being appointed as the pilot for the triumph speed record attempt. He wished Guy and the entire team all the best to break the motorcycle land speed record at the salt flats of Bonneville, USA.
