Lorenzo started on pole position after decimating the Pole record in yesterday's qualifying session and led the way into the fast turn one. He was closely followed by the two Factory Ducatis of Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone, the latter crashing out after desperately trying to catch Lorenzo in the lead.
Valentino Rossi had a difficult start from the third row of the grid, pushed back to ninth at the first corner. His ruthless pace obliterated the gaps built up by Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech3) and Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda), overtaking them effortlessly and cementing second spot on the rostrum and closing up on the sharper end of the world championship standings.
Maverick Vinales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) clinched the final podium spot, his first podium in his MotoGP career and Suzuki's first podium after the Czech GP in 2010. Vinales ran a brilliant race and took advantage of the frontrunners' crashes. Le Mans has been Vinales' favorite circuit as he took his career's first victory here in 2011.
Andrea Dovizioso had another harrowing end to the weekend after he crashed out for the fourth time and 3 DNFs in the opening five rounds of the championship. Championship leader Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) and Dovizioso crashed at the exact same time at the same corner, Both losing their front end at Garage wert. Marquez remounted to finish last in thirteenth.
The Race has been Crash-laden, with 7 riders crashing out. Scott Redding had yet another mechanical failure after five laps. Yonny Hernandez kicked off the crash saga as he crashed out on lap 6 as many riders had issues with the front tires. Riders gambled on the front tire choice as few of them like Marc Marquez and Tito Rabat opted to run the Hard compound front. All but one lost the gamble as Loris Baz (Avintia Ducati) was the only finisher to have used the hard front.
