The Supersport 939 as the name suggests, has a 937cc 90 degree V twin that’s derived from the Hyperstrada/Hypermotard family, but tuned to provide the rider with usable torque low down the rev range. (80% of the 939’s 98 newton-metres can be accesses at 3000 RPM). The motor produces 115 HP at 9000 RPM. The design language is however carried over from the bigger and brawny Panigale family. The front end looks similar to the 1299/959 Panigale but the air intakes are replaced by a pair of LED headlights. The electronics package too, is carried over directly from the Panigale – ABS, Traction control and rider modes along with a quickshifter. (The Supersport S gets a Bidirectional quickshifter). The Cyan- backlit LCD dash shows the usual tell-tale signs – a nice touch. Apart from the supersport’s unique elements- the Wheels, fairings and the Single sided swingarm, the standard Supersport gets Marzocchi adjustable forks and a Sachs monoshock, whereas the ‘S’ variant gets fully adjustable Ohlins forks and monoshock.
Ducati’s aim of venturing into the sport-touring category will be fulfilled, as the Supersport also gets a relaxed riding posture, a pillion seat, a metal fuel tank and an adjustable front windscreen. For people who think the Panigale is too Aggressive and the Multistrada/Hyperstrada is too laidback, this is the perfect opportunity to be a Ducatista!
