For a second, I thought this was probably a joke but then after checking out and comparing the websites of both Indian and UK, I had no choice but to believe what's there in front of me. A small example of the detuned Indian version Triumph bikes compared to UK:
Triumph Speed Triple ABS (Indian Version)
Triumph Speed Triple ABS (UK Version)
As you can see in the links above, there is a considerable power difference between the two models. For reasons unknown, Triumph Motorcycles have tweaked the power and torque figures of their best selling motorcycles here in India. Of note, the bikes which have been detuned are, Daytona, Street Triple, Speed Triple and Bonneville.
Bonneville: 61 PS @ 7,500 RPM & 61 Nm @ 5,550 RPM in India while
68 BHP @ 7,500 RPM & 68 Nm @ 5,800 RPM in UK
Street Triple: 79 PS @ 11,050 RPM & 57 Nm @ 8,375 RPM in India while
105 BHP @ 11,850 RPM & 68 Nm @ 9,750 RP in UK
Speed Triple: 127 PS @ 9,300 RPM & 105 Nm @ 7,800 RPM in India while
133 BHP @ 9,400 RPM & 111 Nm @ 7,750 RPM in UK
Daytona: 118 PS @ 12,300 RPM & 70 Nm @ 9,900 RPM in India while
126 BHP @ 12,500 RPM & 74 Nm @ 11,900 RPM in UK
There is no clear reason as to why a manufacturer who have got their best models selling in large numbers here would do something like this but still guess either there must be a different ECU maps compared to those sold in UK or its just sheer misprinting as even with these models being detuned, they still pack a lot of punch considering our road conditions and moreover there is no official word so far by the British manufacturer.68 BHP @ 7,500 RPM & 68 Nm @ 5,800 RPM in UK
Street Triple: 79 PS @ 11,050 RPM & 57 Nm @ 8,375 RPM in India while
105 BHP @ 11,850 RPM & 68 Nm @ 9,750 RP in UK
Speed Triple: 127 PS @ 9,300 RPM & 105 Nm @ 7,800 RPM in India while
133 BHP @ 9,400 RPM & 111 Nm @ 7,750 RPM in UK
Daytona: 118 PS @ 12,300 RPM & 70 Nm @ 9,900 RPM in India while
126 BHP @ 12,500 RPM & 74 Nm @ 11,900 RPM in UK
But still bike enthusiasts wouldn't be happy with this detuning process if it is happened at all in reality. we at BikesIndia also not updating the Technical specs in our database till we get confirmation from the Triumph Motorcycles India.
***Update*** It is now confirmed with evidence that Triumph Motorcycles were always being sold detuned in India from day one.
