First thing's first, looks. Going by the looks, it's a R1 that doesn't look like a R1, well actually that's what they said, only the name remains and everything else is different. The fairing seems to have been influenced by the current Yamaha's MotoGP bike, M1 with a central ram air take. There are a lot of mixed responses for the bike's looks, but personally I liked it, it's unique and it's awesome and it's Yamaha.
The new R1 claims to produce 200 PS of power and weighs just 199kgs fully fueled which makes it 18 PS more and 7kg less than the current outgoing model. With this much power and less weight, the bike now has one of the best power-to-weight ratio in the bike market, which is more than 1PS/kg.
Going by the engine, it's now got a new Crossplane engine with titanium fracture-split Conrods, a 10.5 litre Airbox, two-directional Fuel Injectors and a new Titanium Exhaust.
The sophisticated electronics new electronics include banking-sensitive traction control and ABS, launch and lift control, power modes and a quick-shifter. Other highlights include a modified chassis that features an asymmetrical aluminium deltabox for a short wheel base and compact dimensions and also it's got a magnesium sub-frame, aluminium tank and cast magnesium wheels. Alongside this, the Yamaha also unveiled a higher-spec limited edition called the R1M, with Ohlins Electronic Racing Suspension, a data-logging system with integrated GPS, and the capability to upload new settings from a mobile phone or connect wirelessly to a tablet. Wow now that looks like serious stuff.
Both the bikes were unveiled at a press conference in Milan, Italy by the company's two top MotoGP racers, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo who acted as development riders on the project.
The pricing for the new YZF-R1 will be around £15000 and the R1M, around £20000 for the UK market. Soon these beauties will reach to our shores. 2015 R1 Technical Specification:
