Engine:
Right off the bat, we can see that the engine is the same twin cylinder Desmodromic Testastretta 11° liquid cooled 821 cc motor. It produces less power and torque than the earlier model, courtesy of the EURO 4 norms. Power is 109 HP @9250 RPM and torque produced is 86 NM @7,750 RPM. The good thing is that the weight has come down to 195 kg from 205 kg. The company claims that the power available in the low and mid-range is meaty and the engine favors the bike to run in the same rev-range.
Clutch is nice and easy to operate due to a progressive system which increases the load on the spring in order to increase the sensitivity of the clutch. The exhaust is a 2-in-1 type, with lambda sensor and catalytic converter for power delivery and fuel consumption management. A DQS (Ducati Quick Shitter) for up and down shift is present, it works when the throttle is closed. The bike is “Ride by wire” enabled and the throttle is managed by the ECU.
Design and Chassis: The new Ducati Monster 821 uses a Trellis frame with attached twin cylinder heads. The rear subframe has been changed to make space for the heat brackets near the passenger footpegs. The front suspension of the motorcycle comprises of 43 mm USD forks and the rear consists of a progressive linkage monoshock which is adjustable for preload. The Moster 821 sits on a pair of Diablo Rosso TMIII, which include a 120/70 17” tyre at the front and a 180/55 17” at the back. Brakes are provided by Brembo, twin radially mounted calipers with 4-piston coupled with 2 semi-floating discs at the front and 2-piston caliper at the rear.
Taking a look at the Design, we can see hints of the Monster 1200, especially on the fuel tank. The tank of 821 has been carved to resemble like its elder brother. At the far front end of the tank, a fastening hook is present which reminds of the original monster. The overall design of the bike is slim and compact, a 31 inches seat height is an evidence of the same. The height can be changed according to your preference.
Electrical and safety: The biggest change is the addition of a brand new coloured TFT screen which displays a lot of information about the bike. It allows the rider to switch between various riding modes, of which there are 3. The onboard computer also allows you to connect with it through a Bluetooth so you can control various functions using the handlebar switches. There is a USB socket present under the seat for charging your phone. For safety purposes, the bike has twin channel ABS. There is no traction control but with a slight control of your wrist, you can easily manage it.
Price and Mileage:
Ducati Monster 821 is available in 3 colours Ducati Red, Ducati Yellow and Dark stealth. It is available at an ex-showroom price of Rs 9.51 (Ex-Showroom).
